circusnext
circusnext is the singular platform and circus label for contemporary circus in Europe. It consists of about thirty partners from 17 countries who gather around founding values – the identification of unique talents, support to emergence and creation, within the explicit context of European cooperation.
Artists are selected by a European jury on their singularity and creativity. The selected creations give a good image of what lives within the universe of current circus.
ERPLX is a full member or ‘platform member’ within the recognition 2022-2025 by Creative Europe, the culture program of the EU.
Contrary to previous editions , circusnext will now be organised on a yearly basis, in order to give artists the chance to apply on the right moment for them. So 3 editions are coming in the next years :
- 2022/2023
- 2023/2024
- 2024/2025.
Every edition is marked by a selection procedure in 3 steps:
1 / National preselections based upon files. The national selection committees consist of the members of the country itself, local professionals and a member of the circusnext artistic committee. The Belgian platform members are Latitude 50, UP! and PERPLX. A maximum of 5 selected companies per national committee per year can be selected.
2/ The nationally selected artists and companies are discussed in an European pre-selection, based upon their file. The European jury consists of all ‘platform members’ and the artistic jury of circusnext. The then obtained shortlist contains a maximum of 12 companies per edition.
3/ Each edition, the selection of the laureates is organized for a week in Paris. The ‘shortlisted’ creations are evaluated thoroughly through a presentation of a scale-model on stage and an interview with the artistic jury. A maximum of 4 laureates are selected per edition.
The companies pre-selected at national level can participate in an artistic lab, 6 labs are organized per year. There are various opportunities for the companies short-listed at European level: a residence grant, residencies abroad with the members affiliated to the platform, mentorship, the presentation of a scale-model on stage during the selection week, in combination with meetings with professionals.
For the laureates: visibility through the presentation to professionals and the public of the scale-model on a podium in Paris and a year of support through residencies and within the platform.

circusnext is hét platform en circuslabel voor het Europa van het hedendaags circus. Het bestaat uit een dertigtal partners uit 17 landen die zich verenigen rond waarden zoals de identificatie van authentieke talenten, de ondersteuning van opkomende circusauteurs en hun eerste creaties binnen de uitgesproken context van Europese samenwerking.
De door een Europese jury geselecteerde artiesten onderscheiden zich door hun eigenheid en creativiteit. De geselecteerde creaties geven een goed beeld van wat leeft binnen het universum van het actuele circus.
PERPLX is volwaardig lid of ‘platform member’ binnen de erkenning 2022-2025 door Creative Europe, het cultuurprogramma van de EU.
In tegenstelling tot de voorbije edities wordt circusnext nu op jaarbasis georganiseerd, dit om de artiesten de kans te geven om op het juiste moment te kandideren. Er komen dus 3 edities aan:
- 2022/2023
- 2023/2024
- 2024/2025.
Elke editie kent een selectieproces in 3 stappen:
1 / Nationale voorselecties op basis van dossiers. De nationale selectiecomités bestaan uit de leden van het land zelf, lokale professionals en een lid van het artistiek comité van circusnext. De Belgische platform members zijn Latitude 50, UP! en PERPLX. Er kunnen maximaal 5 geselecteerde gezelschappen per nationaal comité per jaar geselecteerd worden.
2/ De nationaal geselecteerde artiesten en gezelschappen worden besproken op de Europese voorselectie op basis van het dossier. De Europese jury bestaat uit alle ‘platform members’ en de artistieke jury van circusnext. Er kunnen maximaal 12 gezelschappen per editie ‘geshortlist’ worden.
3/ Iedere editie wordt een week lang in Parijs de selectie van de laureaten georganiseerd. De ‘geshortliste’ creaties worden gewikt en gewogen door een presentatie van een maquette op scène en een interview met de artistieke jury. Er worden per editie maximum 4 laureaten per editie gekozen.
De op nationaal niveau voorgeselecteerde gezelschappen kunnen deelnemen aan een artistiek labo, er worden 6 laboratoria per jaar georganiseerd.
Voor de op Europees niveau ‘geshortliste’ gezelschappen zijn er verschillende opportuniteiten: een verblijfsbeurs, residenties in het buitenland in de bij het platform aangesloten leden, mentorschap, de presentatie van een maquette op het podium tijdens de selectieweek in combinatie met ontmoetingen met professionals.
Voor de laureaten: visibiliteit door de presentatie voor professionelen en publiek van de maquette op een podium in Parijs en een jaar ondersteuning door o.a. residenties en binnen het platform.
